We couldn’t check in at all; we request a refund, the password didn’t work, and the host didn’t answer phone calls. We didn’t like anything, couldn’t check in, tried to contact the host for an hour with no result, and had to urgently find other accommodation.

Nice spot, rates are very reasonable. The shared toilet has no lock and hot water is unreliable – getting a shower or even washing hands is a struggle, and the sink is tiny. The stairs to the rooms are steep and hard to climb.

They advertised a private bathroom, but it isn’t. The room only has a shower and a sink, no toilet. To use the shared bathroom you have to descend a couple of very steep, narrow flights of stairs; the lock on the door is broken. There’s no sink in that bathroom, so you must use the kitchen sink, and there’s no towel to dry your hands – you’re stuck with the communal dish towel. If you need to go at night, it’s a real hassle. The area feels unsafe; a nearby tenement was on fire and the Roubaix arson squad was on the scene. I tried to reach the owner to change my booking, but no one answered my calls or texts, and booking was also unhelpful. The bed is terribly uncomfortable – the cheapest mattress you’ll find. The walls are paper, thin, and the first couple of nights were noisy until midnight. The overhead lamp didn’t work; only a small lamp next to the bed functioned. They don’t provide soap for the shower – bring your own. It’s hard to believe two reviews gave a perfect 10; they must be friends of the owners or fake.
