Hockley House

Overall good value, bright and airy – the bar area is great, and when the weather is nice the gardens are perfect for drinks and dining. The bedrooms are a good size, the shower is clean, the bed is comfortable, and the TV is decent. The only annoyance is that the floors in the bedrooms creak a lot, which is weird for a building that doesn’t look that old, and it doesn’t seem like a simple fix.

“Below average”

The location was fine. We only stayed one night and left very early, so there isn’t much else to say. The bathroom was quite dirty, the extractor fan was covered in dust, and the towels were stained. We could hear the event noise from our room, so guests should be placed farther from wedding and other events. We were relieved it was a child’s party and not a wedding, since it ended earlier. When we left at 6am the doors were all bolted shut and we had to unbolt ourselves. Glad there wasn’t a fire.

“Worst hotel I have ever stayed in.”

I didn’t like anything about the property. A male staff member who helped me was friendly and offered to carry my bag when my room was moved, but everything else was frankly awful. My key, which didn’t show the room number, opened two other occupied rooms as I searched for mine; the occupants were shocked thinking their door was locked, which made me feel unsafe. The first room I was in had a horrible odor because a neighboring building was having drainage problems, which was not advertised before booking. I felt unsafe and in an unclean environment even after being moved. Everything about the stay was shocking.

“Adequate”

The spot was spot on for us, but the room was next to the function room and it was noisy.

“Expensive for a room the was very poor”

The location is good. The room was dirty, with mold on the wall, peeling paint on the ceiling, a beetle on the bed, and food left on the floor for the last guest.
