The property is spectacular, just a short walk from the beach yet far from noise and crowds, making it a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. The cabin itself is lovely. The owner was very kind and let us leave our stuff at his house after checkout, which was a big help. I would definitely come back.

“Emplacement agréable, hôte sympathique mais logement rudimentaire.”

The spot is set in nature, the bed is comfortable, and the host is friendly and helpful. The shower was cold, kitchen accessories were quite dirty, and the fridge had an odd smell. There is no air conditioning, which is the only place in Sri Lanka we’ve stayed that lacks it. A small staircase is needed to reach the property, which might not be convenient for everyone.

“Overall stay was good but some things to take into consideration before staying at the property.”

The bed is comfy, there’s a kitchen and a large bathroom, the bedroom is spacious, and a big fan above the bed keeps you cool. A nice porch sits outside the property. However, the location is up a dark hill with many stray dogs; when I returned home in the evening or got up early to surf, the dogs barked at me and it felt scary at times. The shutters are always open, so lizards and insects get in; there’s a mosquito net for sleeping, but many insects are around inside. WiFi barely worked, so I had to rely on phone data, which isn’t a big deal for me but could be an issue for someone who needs to work. Someone was sweeping outside my room at 6.30 am, waking me up and preventing me from falling back asleep. It’s a small inconvenience; it would be better to start that at 8–9 am.

“Dirty rooms and unresponsive host”

The location is nice – close to the beach and restaurants, yet quiet enough to spot monkeys and peacocks. The bed is comfortable. The overall cleanliness was poor: the bed was clean, but the floors didn’t look swept, and surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom were clearly uncleaned. The kitchen counter was covered in dirt and dead insects, and the bathroom sink had a thick layer of grime. The showerhead had a thick layer of spiderwebs and at least three cocoons, showing it had rarely been cleaned. I sent a picture of the showerhead to the host on WhatsApp shortly after arrival. He didn’t reply until the next day, then offered to come back and clean it properly. When we returned, the bed had been made, the floors might have been swept, and the showerhead cleaned as promised. However, all other surfaces remained as dirty as before. The bathroom looked like it had just been hosed down. I wrote back, but the host ghosted us for the remaining two days, which was disappointing. I would not stay here again.
