The pool and breakfast were good. On the first day the stay started well; the property is beautiful with a spacious pool and pleasant atmosphere. However, from day one the water had an unpleasant smell. Upon arrival in the room we were told to keep the bathroom door closed to keep out animals, since it was an outdoor bathroom, but the door wouldn’t close properly. On the second day breakfast was excellent, but around 12:00 we were told we couldn’t use the water because emergency work was needed. Additionally, the water coming from the taps that morning already had a strong, foul sewage odor. We went out for a long walk and on return we were told the water still couldn’t be used and that they were waiting for a machine from Colombo to fix the issue. The suggested solution was to shower at another hotel about 10 minutes on foot, and keep sleeping in our room without water. We asked to be transferred directly to that hotel for the night. The alternative hotel was clearly lower level and cost about 26 USD per night, versus the 45 USD we had paid for the original. Moreover, Wi‑Fi at the new place didn’t work. The next day we expressed our disappointment and were offered a “discount” by removing the cost of the previous night’s dinner, which was 10 USD. We accepted, not expecting further compensation. Later we noticed another issue: the payment in rupees was calculated using an exchange rate of 335 LKR per USD, instead of the actual rate at the time (330).
