“Ein Traum in Lamu”

We were thrilled by the view, the quiet, and the entire complex right on the promenade in Lamu – authentic, with a stunning sea view. We also really enjoyed the historic part of town. The accommodation was comfortable and lovingly equipped, with a large bed and plenty of space to relax – a place to feel at ease and unwind. Nyama is a wonderful, helpful person and also a great cook. Our captain Yusuf was fantastic as well. A special shout‑out to Donatella: thoughtful, courteous, always reachable, and always looking after her guests. She organized everything perfectly, giving us a beautiful stay. We’ll definitely come back again! 🙏🏽🌺

“¡Totalmente recomendable!”

Nyamar’s service has been excellent. I highly recommend letting her cook dinner. The location is also great. Unfortunately, the building next door is under construction, so on arrival we had constant noise for almost the whole day. As a “compensation,” we were invited to breakfast for both days, which was a nice touch. The shower towels are hand‑size; it would be good to have larger ones. The description on Booking says you’re given toiletries, but it’s just a single bar of soap. Since we travel a lot with carry‑on luggage, it would be appreciated to have shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom (like in most Kenyan hotels). We also didn’t have top sheets on the beds, which was noticeable. However, we asked Nyamar and she gave us sheets the next night without any issue. Despite these points, the accommodation is fully recommended and we hope to return.

“Beautiful almost beach front stay sadly next to loud construction.”

I liked the sea view, the proximity to the beach and the comfy bed, and the decor had a charming feel. The only downside was the loud construction next door that started at 8am and ran until between 3‑5pm, which made it impossible to enjoy the quiet I was hoping for away from Nairobi.

“A pocket-friendly queit relaxing stay, home away from home, with wholesome food, relaxing terrace.”

The breakfast was excellent; fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juice every morning was fantastic, and it's refreshing to have a proper coffee (not instant coffee) for breakfast. Nyama made the tastiest grilled red snapper I have ever eaten, and I have been around the coast many times over the years. He is a superb cook and makes sufficient quantities of food at every meal. He is very helpful, friendly and patient. Very dependable. I loved the balcony and the view of the ocean. The dust from the construction next door and the noise, which I imagine will be over in a few months. The rooms could do with a spring clean once the construction is over

“Gorgeous stay in Shela Lamu with the best food ever”

This guest house is lovely, with spacious rooms and a stunning sea view from the roof where you can eat breakfast or relax. Nyama, the friendly manager, cooks amazing food that I highly recommend; you’ll want to try his dishes. The property is within walking distance to the beach. Mosquitoes are present, but the rooms and bed are netted.
