“Great stay at Gate Hotel”

The location is incredible, the place is well maintained and comfortable. The lounge is amazing, and the fireplace at night adds a nice touch.

“Beautiful perfectly located comfortable hotel near the river”

This is a beautiful special hotel in a perfect location. We splurged for my birthday so knew there would be an incredible view over the river, but didn't know about the daily cleaning, the lounge access, and how perfectly located it was. The lounge offered a little oasis with free beverages for breaks between outings in Kyoto. The lobby on an elevated floor included a restaurant and bar that we didn't try but it looked like a great option. The options for food, beverages, fun, activities, shopping within a 10 minute walk around this hotel are spectacular. This isn't an onsen hotel but an onsen in the hotel would have been just icing on the cake

“Western-style hotel in a great location”

If you want a Western‑style hotel right in Kyoto’s heart, this place fits the bill. Breakfast is solid, and the location is perfect with Pontocho right in the bustling area full of restaurants. The staff were friendly, as expected from Japanese hospitality. The hotel isn’t the typical Japanese vibe, so that might or might not suit you.

The hotel’s location and surrounding area are great, and the rooms are comfortable and clean. However, the facilities are mediocre: the bar on the 8th floor is slow, forgets orders, and the laundry service is very pricey with no washing machines available. The luggage‑sending service is also expensive compared to other hotels.

Everything about the facility was excellent, and there were no negatives to mention.
