I paid for two nights in a room for my son and the second night was supposed to be for me, but on neither of the days I was even allowed to stay. I was told that anyone could enter that room even though I was paying for two. I arrived tired after work, my son had been out since noon, and when we got there the door was open and my son’s belongings were still there, still in the work bag. Thank God nothing was stolen, but a room that anyone could enter is a huge security lapse. I went to complain at reception. An employee didn’t know anything and called the owner. I demanded my money back because I wouldn’t sleep with strangers. I wasn’t posing or asking for anything; I was paying, and the first night reservation didn’t mention anything in writing, nor did the staff inform me that the room was open to anyone. The owner scammed me, and I wasn’t refunded or given the room. I told him I would take the matter to consumer rights; my sister is a lawyer and she will get the scam with interest. The experience felt like a robbery; my son and I were scammed. After I complained, they started calling me ignorant and disrespectful.

The Brazilian volunteer was super friendly, but the reception was a nightmare – you could end up standing on the street for hours. The room was a mess, sheets were dirty, and it felt like a tiny oven. They’re trying to hit American/European standards but only get the price. It really needs a full makeover. I’ve stayed in Indian hostels for 20 rupees and they were cleaner.

Quiet spot, spotless hostel, plenty of places to sit and chill. Close to restaurants and the bus station. The hosts were fantastic, gave us loads of tips on Costa Rica and helped sort out a rental car.
