“Unique, Must-Stay Accommodation!!”

It was the most unique place, with a long walk and a lot of steps to get to it (I timed it—5 min from the street!), but it’s absolutely worth it! Be prepared, because only people who are very mobile can reach it, and despite telling you you’d need to lug your own suitcases, they did enlist porters to do it for you (PHEW!). Our room was fantastic, with incredible views, and everything you’d expect in a somewhat rustic setting. The staff couldn’t have been nicer, and we really enjoyed the food and the morning (literal) monkeyshines! Just a few steep steps down to the private beach and we enjoyed the waves, while we enjoyed a different view from our room just opposite reception, #1 (fantastic balcony), and the most sound sleep of our entire trip as the waves reverberated throughout the room all night. 10/10, absolutely recommend for the physically fit! We knew the hike/trek to the hotel would be rough, but it was entirely doable and ensured you had all your things before you left the property each day, because no way would you want to do that multiple times a day! ;)

“Go elsewhere. Get real Bali luxury for the same price”

The view and sound of the ocean from the room were amazing, and the three staff members on duty were fantastic. However, the Korowai’s price matches local 4‑star hotels while its facilities resemble a hostel: sparse, dated furnishings, a canteen instead of a restaurant, poorly maintained walkways and floors, and barely acceptable bathrooms—acceptable for backpackers but not for what it advertises. The staff deserved better, as did the customers. We left early without a refund because the monkey troupe were too invasive, though the Korowai isn’t to blame; we would have moved on anyway rather than ruin our holiday.

Direkter Meerblick, Affen rundherum, aber auch hörbares Meer nachts, was Schlafprobleme machen kann. Ansonsten eine wunderschöne Unterkunft für ein paar Tage!

“great view .going down the stairs and you are in the beach but difficult to swim. very basic rooms”

We stayed in two different rooms: the first night in a room just 2 meters from the reception, where the AC unit leaked and water dripped onto the floor all night, making it hard to sleep. The second night we moved to the family room, which was much larger and met good standards; both rooms offered amazing views. The hotel’s access is a nightmare, especially with luggage or heavy bags—every trip requires walking up and down stairs, which is inconvenient and impractical.

The Korowai makes it hard to leave the hotel and explore Uluwatu; the setting is stunning, built into the cliff with constant ocean sounds. Waking up and falling asleep to the waves from my room was probably my favorite part. The place feels intimate, secluded, and incredibly peaceful. The beach below was special—at a time when many Uluwatu beaches feel crowded, I was literally alone there, like having my own hidden beach, and you can surf right in front of the hotel if that’s your thing. The location is even better because, despite the seclusion, you’re close to one of Uluwatu’s main streets full of cafés, restaurants, and shops, and perfectly between two main beaches, giving the feel of being tucked away without being far from everything. Access isn’t the easiest and there are many stairs, but the staff were incredibly helpful, happily carrying my heavy luggage and making the whole experience much easier and lovely throughout my stay.
