Athgira River Camping is situated near Udawalawe National Park, overlooking Rakwana River. The property features two outdoor swimming pools, free WiFi, and private parking. Guests enjoy international and traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, outdoor dining, barbecue dinners, and cooking demonstrations. Amenities include a games room, tour desk, 24-hour front desk, laundry, massage, and car rental services, close to Udawalawe reservoir and Elephant Orphanage.

The jungle’s tranquility and the pleasant pool after a safari were fantastic, and watching monkeys by the river added a special touch.

The swimming pool was excellent, especially for young kids thanks to the generous shallow end, and the whole area was beautifully arranged, making the place look gorgeous; we enjoyed the banana tree walk and the easy stroll down to the river, and the beds were comfortable, the safari was excellent, and the staff were kind. However, because it was off‑season and there were few guests, the staff-to‑guest ratio was extremely high, so the service felt a bit overbearing, and it was hard to find any quiet time as a family except by the pool—though that likely wouldn't be an issue when there are more guests.

We spent a very good night at this establishment; the reception was warm and we were welcomed with a complimentary drink, a gesture we appreciated. The dinner, served buffet‑style, was very good, as was the breakfast, which was varied and of high quality. On the downside, we were a bit surprised to find that the drinks at dinner were not included, even though we had booked a package that included breakfast and dinner; this should be made clearer at the time of booking. Overall, we were satisfied with our experience and would recommend the place.

The place was very clean, very secure, and stayed true to its environmental theme. The staff were overly insistent on perfect service; if you’re after comfort, go ahead, but if you want authenticity, look elsewhere, because the surrounding village is very poor and the contrast is too stark.
