Palihotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

The room was good, but the elevator was scary and takes WAAAAAY too long, though I wasn’t in a hurry; I was upset that you have to pay for valet parking per night, which wasn’t disclosed on the website, and we also had to pay another booking fee that was also NOT in the booking. When I booked the room it said there was no other fee, but when I actually got there there were two extra fees I had to pay, and I’m lucky enough I had the extra money, but I don’t think I’ll ever stay here again.

Great staff, but the place was dated, the room AC wasn’t working, and when they moved us the new room’s AC was still insufficient.

The staff were incredibly friendly, and the location in the Gaslamp district is great—close to the harbour and the buzzing nightlife. However, the rooms feel very small, and the old‑school elevators add a touch of charm but make moving around a hassle. A $65 mandatory valet parking is available, which is reasonable given the downtown spot and the difficulty of finding free public parking; the valet is located in a secure underground lot. The AC felt weak; although a remote was provided, the unit was actually centralized, so on hot days it offered little relief—even at night.

“Great staff—mediocre hotel”

The staff—the people who work there—are very kind, but the room‑service hours (or lack there of) were so slim that when I’d dial to order food the phone would just keep ringing; the WiFi was wonky, the AC went out, the elevator was a nightmare, and the hotel charges for every tiny thing. I was told my parking would be charged to the room, but I found two tickets on my car.

“Lacking amenities and in-room comforts”

The design and rooftop are nice, but there are several shortcomings: no charging docks or outlet extensions, poor bathroom ventilation, insufficient valet staff during busy nights, no gym, and no water refill or ice machines. The fridge is essentially useless because it’s filled with expensive hotel‑curated drinks. It gets loud and chaotic on weekends, surrounded by clubs and late‑night partygoers. The downtown liveliness might appeal to some, but it’s not ideal for those seeking a relaxing stay.
