“Mal etwas anderes.”
The houseboat’s spot in the harbor was quiet and appealing, and even though it was hot, the shaded terrace on the deck kept us comfortable thanks to a gentle Mosel breeze. The bike path ran right by the boat, which was great for our rides. When we arrived at the Cube, the heat was unbearable, so we had to open every window and door to cool it down; a climate‑control unit would have helped. Inside the Cube, there are no windows for cool air at night, so we kept the doors open, limiting privacy. The double bed’s mattress was tight and uncomfortable, leaving both my husband and me with hip pain each night. The kitchen was very sparse, making it hard to cook extensively, and showering was a real challenge. The boat isn’t really meant for more than three people, even though it technically has three extra sleeping spots (two on the sofa and one in the loft bed). Cleaning was mediocre: cobwebs everywhere, dirt under the sofa, and garden chairs and loungers still had stains from previous guests. The gas cylinder doors in front of the boat blew away in the wind and we had to fish them out of the water—long‑term it would make sense to invest in better quality. In short, the houseboat was a unique experience and perfect for cyclists because of its proximity to bike paths and the city center, but we wouldn’t book it again because the comfort didn’t meet our needs. Next time we’ll choose a larger apartment or a hotel room with air‑conditioning. Choosing accommodation depends on one’s expectations, life situation, and age; we were a family of three on the boat and my husband and I are no longer very young, so we can’t fully adapt to such conditions on vacation.
