“DO NOT GO HERE! Im thankful I didn’t get RAPED or KILLED!”
Absolutely nothing. Disgustingly pathetic hotel, management, security and people. The most horrible experience of my life. I am writing this almost a month after what happened because I gave this hotel every reasonable opportunity to investigate, respond and give us some form of accountability. They have not. On the night of 25 August, I was asleep beside my boyfriend in our chalet at Aloft Grand Ella. At around 1:30 AM, I felt something cold touching my left leg underneath the blanket. I woke up thinking there was a snake in the bed and started kicking. It wasn’t a snake. It was a man. There was a stranger beside my bed, halfway up the mattress, touching my leg underneath my blanket while I was asleep. When I kicked, he fell. I started screaming uncontrollably. In the darkness, I saw his silhouette escape through the balcony door. My boyfriend woke to me screaming and initially thought I was having a nightmare. He immediately tried to calm me. I was so terrified that I couldn’t even get the words out to explain that there had been a man inside our room touching me while we slept. A foreign woman staying in the neighboring chalet came over after hearing my screams. She told us that shortly before this happened, someone had been shining a torch around/under her balcony door. After I screamed, she heard someone running past her chalet. We also became extremely concerned about the security of our balcony door. There was a significant gap around the locking area, and we believed the mechanism could potentially be manipulated from outside. All six people in our group moved rooms that same night because none of us felt safe remaining in those chalets. The police became involved the following morning. We asked the hotel for CCTV footage. We asked what investigation was being conducted. We asked whether staff had been questioned. There was not even adequate CCTV coverage of the relevant area that could give us meaningful answers about who approached our chalet or how this person got there. Instead, management repeatedly told us: “This is the first time this has happened
