“Quirky room in a domestic residence.”
We were looking for a stopover to break the journey from Toulouse to St Malo. The room we had was charming, very large, and could be accessed from the garden or the main house. It turned out to be a room in a domestic residence, which I didn’t realize until arrival. We skipped breakfast because we were eager to leave, but the scent of fresh coffee on Sunday morning was tempting. The place is accessed off a quiet street in the town centre, and when we arrived it seemed abandoned with builders’ notices on the front, so we thought we’d been scammed. The host, who was charming, showed us to the room and explained how to use the private gated car parking. Privacy was somewhat lacking: there was only a partial curtain across the hallway to the bathroom, which was not en‑suite and had a glass door.
