The Guest Lodge Gainesville is off Interstate 985, near central Gainesville. The hotel offers a grab-and-go continental breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Rooms feature cable TVs, small refrigerators, microwaves, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Amenities include an outdoor seasonal pool, business center, laundry facilities, and grill area. Lake Lanier and Lanier National Speedway are nearby.

The breakfast offered bananas, muffins, danishes, apples, and juice, but you have to ask the receptionist to bring it to you; I didn’t eat breakfast much because there’s a McDonald’s right next to the hotel that’s easy to walk to. The value was good and the rooms were clean. The door to my room would get stuck because of humidity and there was a gap underneath that let bugs in—some weather stripping would have helped. The walls are very thin, but the neighbors were quiet.

I liked the breakfast and the office/lobby area, and I appreciated having a refrigerator and microwave in the room. However, the room smelled entirely of mold, smoke, and mildew, likely from the old carpet that hadn’t been vacuumed. When I lifted the sofa bed, there were mold spots on it and the pillows were worn out and no longer fluffed. I hope they replace the carpet and old sofa beds and basically finish renovating the whole facility.
