I’m back for the third time at this guesthouse, and if I ever visit Samarkand again, this is the only place I’ll go. Everything you could want is within walking distance – the Siam Bazaar, a bunch of cafés, restaurants, a canteen, a grocery store, and the main pedestrian street – all just 200 metres away from the house, which sits quietly in the narrow lanes of the old town. But the real treasure of Al Khalila is its owners. Olim and Nigor greet you with Eastern hospitality, answer every question, solve any problem, and arrange all your trips. And you’ll keep thinking about their famous breakfasts long after you’re back home.

The location is central and quiet in the old town, and the host family is very friendly and attentive. If you don’t let Google Maps mislead you, you’re only a few minutes on foot from the sights. The breakfast was delicious. We’ll book there again.
