“Sehr besonders!”
The special tents – the rooms – were great. Everything else was fine.

Located in Amboseli National Park, Kilima Safari Camp offers spacious accommodations with breathtaking views of animal water pools and Mount Kilimanjaro. The camp features 4-poster beds with mosquito nets, private bathrooms, and some rooms include claw-foot tubs. Guests can enjoy massages, a pool, and Maasai cultural lectures, as well as bush walks and game drives.

The staff were welcoming, especially Jack the server and Johnston the housekeeper. The food was varied and tasty, and the location was superb, close to the park with views of Mount Kili. Power outages caused big trouble, likely leading to cold showers; a backup generator would help. An extra fan in the tents would improve airflow.

Denise at the restaurant was very kind and helpful, and the food tasted good. However, the $450/night price was far below what we expected, and the lack of genuine hospitality was obvious. The buffet excluded water, forcing guests to buy overpriced drinks. Some staff were rude and aggressive; my omelette request was ignored for no reason. Reception closed after 9 pm, leaving us without help for room issues. Cockroaches appeared daily, and monkeys constantly invaded the dining area, stepping on cutlery. Today’s cocktail cost 2,000 KSh, and paying in USD would be unfair because the hotel applies a rate of $1 = 120 KSh. Wi‑Fi was almost non‑existent, and the signal in the room was weak; the hotel should warn that it’s only suitable for a digital detox. Room amenities were poorer than a one‑star guesthouse in Kenya: no coffee, no sockets near the beds, only one tiny shampoo bottle for two guests, and no slippers in this dusty environment, yet the hotel still tries to maximize profit.

The facilities were solid overall, with no complaints. It’s a solid mid‑range place, though the location is a bit far from the centre.

The location, staff, and comfort were all fantastic. The only downside was the lack of Wi‑Fi in rooms and only intermittent coverage in common areas.
