Sunset & Waves Resort, Mandrem Beach

I loved this place; its location is perfect for beach life and city restaurants, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant can be enjoyed on the beach in shaded recliners or inside the building. I stayed in a room, not a cabin—spacious, clean, and comfortable with a good bed. It was quiet and safe, and both credit cards and bahts were accepted, though the ATM was a bit far to reach.

“Very, very disappointed overall and would not recommend.”

I didn't like this place at all. I've stayed at Mandrem Beach many times over the years and loved it, but this one fell short of expectations. I booked online for £63 a night, expecting a touch of luxury, only to discover that the room was offered on selected dates for £21 a night. The room was adequate and clean, but the staff seemed uninterested. Breakfast consisted of just one cup of tea or coffee, one orange juice, and a choice of an omelette or fruit salad; anything extra had to be bought from the main à la carte menu, and there was no buffet. This was not what I expected for the price paid or what the description promised. The TV didn't work and Wi‑Fi was limited. There was no pool, which I would have expected from a resort. One evening meal was mediocre and I found a nearby shack with better food at half the price. The room was not cleaned during my stay and towels were not changed. The outdoor toilets and shower were disgustingly dirty.

“A lovely stay at Sunset & Waves enhanced by kind and friendly staff”

The hotel sits right on the beach, away from the road, and is very quiet. Staff were attentive, friendly, and kind. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable.
