The host Jakim was very friendly and even gave me a city tour. The location is central in a charming nostalgic house. If you’re after a lot of luxury, this isn’t the place for you, but I still found it great.

Etno House Shancheva is more than just a place to stay; it feels like a perfect gateway into the local community and surroundings. Run by a two‑generation family, it offers everything a first‑time visitor to Macedonia might need: comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms in a 300‑year‑old house, lovely views of Kratovo and the surrounding mountains, and above all, genuine hospitality from the owners. Take your time and chat with Iakim, the younger generation, an archaeologist by training and a museum worker. He’ll gladly fill you in on local customs, culture, and history. Don’t miss the chance to try and buy homemade spices and condiments made by his father. Staying at Shancheva makes your time in Kratovo a five‑star experience.

The family is very welcoming and makes sure everything is fine. Joaquín speaks Spanish and shows you the town’s monuments and history.

The hosts’ friendliness and the authentic atmosphere of the house, which transports you to traditional Kratovo life, and its location right in the old town are worth mentioning. The parking is hard to find unless the owner shows you how to get through the narrow, cobbled alley that barely fits a car.

An unbelievable place and the owners’ family. Every corner and surrounding spot reminds you of the ethnic vibe; everything feels truly part of the owners’ lifestyle. If you want to experience local atmosphere and hospitality, don’t miss this special place. I just wanted to stay a bit longer.
