Hotel Almesberger, in Aigen im Mühlkreis, overlooks the Bohemian Forest 40 km from Linz. The hotel features a 5,000 m² spa area with indoor and outdoor pools, free Wi-Fi, and a restaurant with breakfast buffet. Panoramic views are offered from the terrace. Tennis courts and free parking are available, with nearby golf course, hiking trails, and cross-country ski runs.

The breakfast offered a wide variety, with fresh egg dishes and pastries from the previous day’s afternoon snack, which I found sustainable. A table was assigned for the entire stay. Restaurant staff were extremely friendly, thoughtful, and quick—especially efficient when Helene was on duty. Parking spots were free. Dogs are allowed for 20€ per day. Massages and cosmetics were very good and pleasant, using high‑quality products. The swimming and sauna facilities were okay. The room equipment felt a bit outdated; the bathtub had a shower wall with about a 1 cm gap at the edge and between sections, so even after a thorough effort to angle yourself, there was always a massive “flood” after showering. Though we had announced we were bringing a dog, we were given a carpeted room, which didn’t feel like a 4‑star experience. The whole property, spread over a slope, had been expanded several times, so connecting the different sections required repeatedly climbing stairs up and down. The corridors were confusing. Adding to the difficulty, room numbers and floors didn’t consistently match (e.g., rooms 2xx were on floor 1), making navigation even harder.

The location and wellness area were great. The rooms could use a modern update; otherwise everything else is super modern.

The location was perfect for relaxing and enjoying, the kitchen was excellent, staff were attentive, always friendly and helpful. The sauna area left no wishes unfulfilled and the baths were very well tempered. In the lovingly laid out garden you can find spots to read in peace or enjoy a coffee – it is served – and relax. For sporty vacationers there is a huge fitness room, a tennis hall and a table‑tennis table available. Everything was perfect. There was nothing to complain about.
