“Sehr gute Unterkunft, wir würden gerne wieder kommen”
Breakfast was simple yet superb—everything fresh and tasty, and the spot is just a few steps from the train station. The Wi‑Fi could use some improvement.

The hotel has a dreamlike early‑20th‑century vibe, once known as “Englischer Hof” and linked to Sherlock Holmes’s legendary visit. The building is beautiful, with spacious rooms, a stunning drawing room, and lovely dining areas. The rooms themselves are grand, well‑equipped, furnished nicely, and feature a balcony overlooking the Alps where you can see the last glacier remnant and hear waterfalls—truly rare. Dining in Meiringen is pricey and hard to find off‑season, but this hotel even has a charming Irish pub downstairs that offers great food and drinks at about half the city price. I can’t find anything truly negative about this place.

The reception was warm, offering a wide array of fruit, snacks, and drinks for free. The rooms are newly renovated, with great views and a prime location—especially appealing to Sherlock Holmes fans. The elevators feel a bit old‑fashioned, and getting a stroller in is quite inconvenient.

The breakfast spread was very generous and tasty, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The town setting—close to the station, restaurants, and the Aareschlucht—was ideal, and parking was available with everything reachable on foot or by public transport. I liked the historic vibe of the hotel itself and the pub in the basement, which has its own entrance, is a real bonus. The soundproofing of the door to the hallway wasn’t great, but we didn’t have any trouble with it during our stay, perhaps because it was off‑season or the guests were spread out. The mattresses felt a bit too firm. Overall, it was fine.
