Located a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Station, Spa Hotel Alpina Hida Takayama features Western-style rooms with natural wood touches and en suite bathrooms. The hotel offers open-air hot-spring baths with scenic views, free WiFi, and ALTERRACE restaurant serving daily breakfast buffets with local ingredients. It's a 3-minute walk to the Morning Market and a 6-minute walk to Takayama Old Town.

Compared to a few other hotels in Japan, Alpina was quite expensive. The onsens were fantastic, the staff friendly, the hotel well‑located, and all facilities were available.

The location was good, not far from Takayama’s center or the station, and it was great to check the breakfast crowd from the room and choose a pillow at reception. The bathroom was small and not functional (a single mixer for the bathtub and sink with a movable arm). For a four‑star I expected at least complimentary water in the room. The sweet breakfast was insufficient.

The public bath and the outdoor pool were great, but the shoe polish and shoe cleaner were not near the entrance, which made them inconvenient to use.

The proximity to the 9th floor made sleeping a bit uncomfortable, as we could hear noises coming from the upper floor (a white noise in form of water flowing and another irregular sound every 15 seconds or so)
