“Great location but stay in the gites, not the hotel!”
The hotel is a gorgeous old building and the outdoor facilities are lovely – a great swimming pool with a bar overlooking it and a sauna and jacuzzi nearby. Unfortunately the sauna wasn’t turned on when we wanted to use it and it didn’t heat up at all during the next half hour even after we switched it on. The self‑catering gites on the château grounds looked impressive, recently renovated to a very high standard. Its location is ideal for visiting the châteaux of the Loire, and I’d recommend it to any family wanting to stay in one of the gites. Breakfast was very disappointing: it was left in a basket in a very dark room that seemed to be the food service area, even though there was no dining room. The coffee was lukewarm and served in metal bottles, the croissants were cold and not very fresh, and we couldn’t get hot milk for our coffee. The hotel feels a bit neglected with a very limited staff presence; it felt like a ghost town, and although the staff were welcoming, there was essentially no hotel service. Claiming it’s a paradise for foodies is misleading because there is no restaurant!
