The owner initially gave us two beds shared with other guests for me and my wife—what a joke? After negotiating, he set up another small, separate room that was poorly insulated and had no covers; it was really, really freezing at night.

You really shouldn’t be picky or expect a fully local experience; there was no hot water and only a little cold water.

The owner was very attentive and spoke perfect English, and the rooftop view was very nice, but the fan was broken, a window was broken, water was missing at times, it was noisy, the roof was dirty, and the bed was uncomfortable.

The whole family was incredibly kind, the view was great, and they offered transport to Abu Simbel. The mattresses were uncomfortable, we were in a hurry so we didn’t mention the lack of water, and one of the fans was broken.
