Chilaw isn’t your typical tourist spot; we came for a wedding and it was fantastic to see genuine Sri Lankan life. The locals were friendly and eager to show off their lovely coastal town. Spice of Ceylon turned out to be the best place around, and Nishandah, the manager, was incredible—so welcoming and helpful that we now think of him as a friend. The hotel’s food felt like home‑cooked Sri Lankan cuisine at its finest, and if you can’t handle the heat, just ask and they’ll adjust it for you. Our rooms faced the ocean, letting in nice breezes through spacious, spotless rooms. We absolutely loved our stay here! Thanks for having us, and we can’t wait to come back! Zoe & Roo

The pool was nice and the Wi‑Fi worked fine, but after reading other guests’ comments I was completely disappointed; the room was poorly cleaned, especially the sheets, pillowcases and the disposable slippers, which were unacceptable.

The place is very attractive, simple in style, spotless, with high rooms featuring wooden floors, and the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful; you can even request an Ayurvedic masseur, which I highly recommend. Unfortunately, the beach right in front of the hotel is far from inviting because it is extremely dirty.

It’s a good base for wonderful short trips nearby, though the coconut in the neighboring town was a let‑down.
