The ranch is set in a gorgeous landscape, but the staff were a nightmare. They never answered my WhatsApp, so the ranger didn’t know I was coming and called me a curse on speaker. I ended up in a cabin with no power, no way to charge my phone, and a room full of dead bugs. On top of that, I was billed $122 instead of the $80 I booked, and the extra charges for dinner, water, and snacks were bogus.

The finca was incredible – Guillermo cooked great meals, we did a solo waterfall hike and a paid horse ride. But you have to get to el Castillo by 3 pm, it's a 35‑minute bus ride, and the finca is an hour away on horseback, so plan accordingly. Also, the staff were slow to reply on WhatsApp before arrival, so we had no idea what to bring for meals.

The place feels like a different world – stunning scenery, a nearby waterfall, local food, and a real farm vibe with animals. Guillermo and his family were friendly, but getting to the lodging is a steep climb unless you hire a horse. Expect extra fees for meals, horse rides, and the waterfall, and if you don’t speak Spanish, conversations can be tough.

The spot is great – awesome wildlife, friendly people, and wonderful hosts. The location is unbeatable, but the amenities are a bit lacking and the place could use some updates.

Staying with Emilio and his family was a true escape – rustic, disconnected, and full of local charm. It’s not comfortable by modern standards, and the pre‑arrival communication was a bit spotty, but the vibe was worth it.
