The location was right on the KVR. Our trip involved cycling all the way to Hydraulic Lake and back. After returning from the ride, power was out because a tree had fallen on the line, leaving no water for showers or drinking, no lights, and no way to cook. The restaurant was closed. An emergency generator would have helped, but they offered free burgers as compensation. We had to shorten our stay and were not offered any refund.

The location in the forest was impressive. I think there are cabins with bathrooms… I would choose one of those next time.

The spot is great and the historic cabin is handy for the KVR cycle, plus the beds are comfy. But we were missing shampoo and shower soap—since we paid $300 for the 4‑person cabin for one night we expected those basics. A few papers and kindling for the fire would have helped too. The food, especially breakfast, fell short: the waffles were cold and burnt. We did get a mouse over at night, but that was fine because the cabin is old and charming.

Our cabin at Chute Lake Lodge was definitely rustic, but it was also kind of tilted - you felt like you were on a slope the whole time. On the plus side, the outdoors was gorgeous and the food in the restaurant was good. But the communication with staff was basically non-existent. We'd go to the reception area and no one would be there, and when we'd try to get help in the restaurant, they were busy and couldn't answer our questions.
