Villetta - Matakana Country Escape

Our final stop on a New Zealand tour was the Villetta, where we spent four days. It sits perfectly on a hillside, surrounded by banana trees, olive trees and lovely flowers. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace, listening to native birds. Inside, the décor is tasteful and the kitchen fully stocked. The bed was very comfortable and the linens luxurious. We were close to Matakana, exploring shops and restaurants, and the Saturday farmers market was phenomenal. The beach is a 10‑minute drive and there are many hiking trails nearby. Kim and Mr Miko were the most gracious hosts you’ll ever meet; they made us feel welcome and we can’t wait to visit again. Everything was perfect!

“Idyllic, cosy getaway perfect for relaxing”

This quiet spot just outside Matakana is super close to everything nearby. The property is idyllic, and Kim was a helpful, kind host who gave many local recommendations. The accommodation was very comfortable and exactly as described. I loved it! The only issue was that the second bedroom and bathroom are accessed through the first bedroom, so if privacy matters, keep that in mind.

“Below average”

The location is great and the outdoor area is good, and the place was very clean. However, it is definitely not a luxury or boutique spot and should not be marketed as such. It’s actually a converted garage, so condensation, cold, damp, an odd layout, and no space in the kitchen are all present. There’s only one bedroom with a closing door, meaning you have to walk through the other area, which contains a bed, to reach the bathroom. The beds, though nicely made, feel cheap with very soft toppers; when two people lie on them a hump forms in the middle and you almost fall out each side 🤣! One party member, who has a delicate back, drove back to Auckland to sleep because the bed would have been a problem for the rest of the weekend. This unit should be advertised as a one‑bedroom with a separate area for kids to sleep and is not suitable for two couples.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Villetta, a beautiful property in an idyllic setting. Relaxing in this immaculate place with first‑class amenities was fantastic. Kim was a lovely host who gave us great info on local attractions and eateries. We’ll definitely stay again!
