This place turned out to be a hidden gem in the heart of Tavira, offering plenty of space for two single women. The spot was central yet quiet, and though we couldn’t stay long enough to use the garden, it looked lovely and had everything we needed. Maria welcomed us warmly and helped us stash our luggage before check‑in and after check‑out. A longer stay would have been great.

Maria was an exceptional host; the communication from before arrival was excellent and she made our holiday five‑star and beyond. The location was perfect, straight out the door into town’s centre. A four‑day music festival started right at the beginning of our stay, but it didn’t disturb the calm oasis we found in the garden, where a 24‑year‑old turtle lived and visited us daily for food that Maria had left in a container of turtle nibbles. On our return to Faro airport we faced flight cancellations, so we went back to Tavira and Maria arranged another equally delightful place for us. What more could you ask for? Great location, great accommodation, and a lovely host. We’re looking forward to staying at Maria’s home again next September. – Jools & Steve Somerset, UK

The location is great, but the house is very old with no charm or comfort; the second bedroom feels like a hole without windows, the kitchen has no windows, and the patio, though with lovely plants, is unusable due to many mosquitoes; there are not enough outlets, and the few adapters are stolen by thieves; the photos only show part of the rooms, which is a shame because the location is wonderful but the house offers no amenities and is uninviting.

Very nice, historic, cozy place with a garden and a turtle; it was really nice to enjoy the stay in such a place, in lovely Tavira. An extra glass for wine and a couple of glasses for beer would be nice, but these are just tiny things that really do not matter.

We were very satisfied with this apartment; the host was very friendly. It had good space with two bedrooms, and the air‑conditioning worked well. The bedroom with the double bed had a great view of the garden. We really liked the small backyard with grape vines hanging in large clusters. The children were also very excited that there were two little turtles here. The apartment is in the middle of town but there is no noise. Tavira as a town was also very charming and clearly the most authentic town we were in on the Algarve coast. You have to take a short ferry to get to the beach. The beach and beach restaurants are absolutely worth the trip. Nothing specific made us unhappy. Remember mosquito spray, since there are a lot of mosquitoes in a backyard with so many plants.
