The place was new and very clean, though there was a little bit of mold on some plumbing and balcony doors, just a tiny amount due to the damp climate. I originally wanted to book this guest house, but after seeing some negative reviews I changed my mind. I booked another spot in the area and left the next day for villa Rukathathana, which turned out to be a mistake! The location is nice, very clean and new, with fresh towels and bedsheets. The bed was comfortable, probably about 160 cm long, not the 180‑200 cm I’d expected. There’s a discount for longer stays (we booked one night and ended up staying the whole week). The kitchen is usable except for the stove; you can use the fridge, utensils, sink, cupboards, and an electric kettle. Outside tables are available for eating your own fruit or ordering breakfast. It’s two steps from Silent Beach and a 10‑minute walk to “no waves” Unakuruwa Beach (though there are many ticks there, so bring flea and tick drops for local dogs). A big washing machine is available for 1000 LKR, which is cheap considering how many kilos you can fit. The staff were respectful and answered all requests; the owner speaks English. The only negative was a crazy neighbour on our side of the house (room 02) who would scream at night on occasion and run naked around 4 am; if you sleep tight with A/C and windows shut it’s fine. No other rooms can hear that neighbour, so don’t worry.
