The decor is pretty on the surface but disappointing in the details. Hotel Zazen is undoubtedly beautiful. The white surroundings, exotic garden, and sleek interior look fantastic. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations when we got closer. Reception was neither warm nor particularly welcoming. We paid almost 10,000 kr for four nights with sea view, but a large bush blocked about half the view. The room needed maintenance. Several spots lacked paint, including the ceiling, and the bathroom floor had several rust spots. Near the bathtub, where the scent strips were, there were visible cracks that hadn’t been cleaned properly. Many small details fell short of the standard for a hotel at this price point. The minibar wasn’t restocked the next day. Towels were clean, but several had stains that couldn’t be fully removed. We also missed the extra pampering one expects at that price. A small snack or some afternoon attention would have made a difference. The beach wasn’t as quiet as we had hoped. The constant noise from jet skis and water skiers made it less suitable for relaxation. At the restaurant, there were ongoing shows and activities that attracted many people who came to take selfies. We knew that was part of choosing Zazen, but it still made the hotel less calm and exclusive than we expected. Zazen looks beautiful, but for us the experience didn’t match the price. It felt a bit like a decorated corpse – pretty on the surface but with too many flaws up close. We expected better service, more maintenance, and not least more pampering. We would not choose to stay here again.
