The place, the room, the breakfast, and especially Francesco and his mother were all delightful.

We enjoyed a fantastic stay at Castello La Grancia, a family‑owned and‑run agriturismo where Cinzia, one of the first women to run such an establishment in the area, has managed the property since 2002 together with her son Francesco, who grew up in the business and was our main English‑speaking contact. Each morning we watched Nonna and Cinzia cooking while Francesco served and chatted with guests, and Cinzia also engaged warmly with the Italian‑speaking visitors. The whole family was charming. The castle itself is a beautifully maintained historic building full of character. Our room was spacious, spotless, and had a comfortable bed with great pillows. Breakfast was a generous spread every morning. The location is ideal for exploring the Val d’Orcia, as we were 20 minutes or less from four or five hilltop towns, including Pienza and Montalcino, which turned out to be our favorites of the trip. One small note: the property shares space with another agriturismo, which was a bit confusing at first but not a major issue. Highly recommend – a memorable stay with a genuinely welcoming family.

The receptionist was nice, but the mother decided everything. Our room was full of flying laundry because the place is isolated and there is no night reception, so we had nobody to talk to and could not sleep; we were in a battle to eliminate the flies that wouldn’t stop hanging on the walls of the bed. In the morning a man arrived and I couldn’t believe my eyes – the wall was full of flies; he searched and searched but couldn’t find where they came from. We informed them that we were not staying, would leave, and asked for a refund for the remaining two nights. We’ll see what happens, and I’m asking for booking’s help.

The property is absolutely beautiful, a picturesque farm and old castle set in a quiet, serene countryside. Nothing was wrong; it was perfect!
