The location was beautiful and the décor very tasteful, but the bathroom lighting was weak and the room was a little noisy.

The hotel in Kandersteg is very clean, charming, and away from the tourist bustle. The historic building is well maintained, the terrace invites you to linger, and the herb garden is gorgeous. Breakfast was good with a wide bread selection. It’s a bit noisy, but that’s expected in such an old house and didn’t bother me further.

Ruedihus feels like a unique spot—a Swiss-built timber house from 1753 on the outskirts of Kandersteg with its own vibe. If you’re after something memorable instead of a bland, pricey, impersonal hotel, this is it! We spent three nights in attic room 609. The evening cow bell chimes, the almost museum‑like quiet rooms, and the delightfully cheerful staff made the stay unforgettable. In warm summer evenings you can dine outside and stroll the aromatic Ricola herb garden. Breakfast is relaxed, uncrowded, and personally served. I highly recommend this special place. A pleasant 1 km walk brings you into town, and the spot is ideal for hikes to Donderhornhütte, the Gasterntal valley, and the Sunnbüel cable car. What a great place! The only downside is that it’s not a resort with a spa, ultra‑fast Wi‑Fi, or a 24/7 bar and reception. For example, when we arrived at 7 pm because of traffic delays, we had to wait in the dining room for the staff to finish serving dinner before they handed us the key. That’s the first adjustment you need to make to fit the relaxed vibe—adjust and relax, it’s worth it.
