The staff were friendly, the room was clean, everything you need was there, and the bar had good beer – no problems at all.

The owner was genuinely friendly, and the bed felt very comfortable; the only thing that was clean was a standing fan in the wardrobe, which was a lifesaver during the heatwave. Unfortunately, neither of the two rooms I booked had been cleaned at all – the bathrooms were filthy, so I had to buy bleach spray and wet wipes from the shop over the road just to use the toilet, sink, and showers; it was honestly that bad. I didn’t want to confront the lovely owner, but it was just too awful to discuss. The dust on the side tables and windowsills was ridiculous, and the little table with cups and coffee had the same amount of dust, so I couldn’t use it. I had to keep my shoes on because the floor hadn’t been cleaned; the bits on the floor were unacceptable, and I had no idea when the room had last been vacuumed. All of this was bizarre, especially since someone had clearly been in to change the bedding – it just boggles the mind. I urge the owner to clean rooms properly before letting them out; it’s basic stuff and wouldn’t have taken long at all. It’s not acceptable for any amount of money if it’s not clean. If the room had been cleaned and the bathroom free from other filth, the price would have been acceptable. I hope the owner takes this feedback seriously, or it would be a shame if not. I also hope other guests have a cleaner experience.

Convenient town centre location with free parking on the nearby streets. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the shower was good – I couldn’t have asked for more. I stayed on a Friday night and there was no noise issue from the pub. The pub itself is a nice mix of regulars and visitors, with very reasonably priced drinks. Plenty of local food options, including Mark Lane cafe & bakery across the street, which serves a fabulous breakfast. Nothing negative.
