“Goed hotel voor een goede prijs.”

Room 110 and its bathroom were decent, a bit small but clean and functional; the mattresses and bed were excellent, and the chat feature worked flawlessly. The schnitzels were delicious. However, the digital room key sometimes malfunctioned, especially in the mornings. By 06:30 it was already quite noisy outside, with street sweepers and delivery workers starting early.

It’s brilliant that everything is digital—no surprise bill at the end. The only downside is that it was a bit more than we had expected.

“Strange stay”

Check‑in was terrible; we had to download an app and it took almost an hour to get settled during a tight business schedule. The staff tried to help, but charging €10 to foreigners and offering a smoother process would be better. The doors opened slowly, giving a very odd experience.

“Verschrikelijk ALLES via QR symbool ONPERSOONLIJK”

Nothing. Booking didn’t tell me beforehand that there was no hotel reception and that everything would be handled through chayns.cards. Everything required a QR code—check‑in, entrance, and room access. My phone couldn’t read it, so we couldn’t get in until someone from the neighboring café helped us. Shame! Also, the breakfast was not included even though it was listed as such.

“A clean room is ruined by dependence upon computer software that underperforms at almost every step.”

The location is good. The waitress at breakfast was excellent, helpful with both the meal and information around Ahaus. The room was clean and the shower worked well. Booking this hotel was painful, probably because we are non‑German‑speaking and non‑German residents. The tiny computer programmers who wrote the site’s code are inadequate. We couldn’t book the hotel on the website despite many attempts and had to use a general booking site. We could request our native language, but any error message is only in German. We don’t have a German mobile number and the site won’t accept it—no suggestion to use an international dialing code, country code, or any permutation. We don’t have a German postal code and the site won’t accept that either. This is problematic at every stage of registration and payment before arrival. At the hotel our German friend found someone who could open the room door. The elevator was broken. There are many electrical outlets but none at the bedside; they’re at the corridor door, window corner, and desk—mostly useless. The owner seems clueless about customer experience. You might think this is the “new business model” for a digital hotel, but it remains my last resort until it improves. I can’t call this good value for money because the experience was mostly painful.
