Our quick trip to SW France from the Channel ports started here; delays on the crossing forced a brief stop for supper, but the owners had already given us precise directions so we reached 'The Green Portals' safely just as dusk fell, and the gates opened to a thrilling 12‑hour exploration of the chateau, its grounds, its rebirth, and the local Loir area between Le Mans & Loire regions. All our many questions (unpacking aside) were answered generously, and the restoration story was amazing. The room was huge and very comfortable with lovely views, local books, and a coffee machine, and we were set for breakfast the next morning. The only downside is that the chateau’s restoration isn’t finished yet, but it’s currently open to a small number of guests and that number will likely grow soon, which is part of the charm.
