The location was convenient, but the basic facilities need an upgrade even though they were still comfortable.

The staff and even the owner’s dog were friendly, and the room was roomy with a big table and enough chairs for everyone; the bedding, towels, and TV worked fine, though I couldn’t figure out how to turn on YouTube. The shower was powerful and hot, and soap, conditioner, and shampoo were provided. In the naturally rich setting, insects were expected, but after reporting a night of bugs, the staff took care by spraying insecticide, offering towels to block gaps, and generally doing their best. Harker is a small, nature‑rich town with gas stations, restaurants, shops, a tire shop, a park for kids, and an art gallery, so I didn’t feel inconvenienced. The only downside was the lack of a hair dryer, so bring one if you need it. On the first night, seven insects appeared, one even crawled into a family member’s ear and woke them up; the door had a gap, so covering it with a towel at night was wise, and the staff would lend towels if asked. If staying in warm weather, it might be smart to bring insect repellent. The insect problem was only on the first night; by the second morning, after the staff sprayed insecticide, only a couple of tiny bugs were seen. After the first night’s trouble, we turned off the lights at 7 pm and slept.

The spot was great, the room was spacious enough for three of us, and the owner was very friendly. The furnishings were a bit dated, but the room stayed clean and comfortable.

The staff were fantastic, but the shared shower cubicles lacked a shelf to keep clothes dry, which made the shower area a bit messy.

Everything we could possibly need was in the room, even cold water in the fridge, yet the power was out the whole time we stayed, a situation beyond the motel’s control but easy to manage.
