The equipment was good and it was quiet, but the tent gets hot in the afternoon when the sun is strong, which isn’t a big deal since we went out.

If you’re not a hardcore camper, this is a great spot: you sleep in real, comfy beds, the place is quiet, the linens and gear are clean, and the small camp keeps everyone respectful. It’s very tidy, close to La Rochelle, and the village shops (bakery, butcher, etc.) are handy. The downside was that the women's toilet ran out of toilet paper from 9 pm until 10 am the next morning.

All the nature, the smells, the birdsong during the day and the rustling leaves at night made me think of goats and owls near the tent. The cooking utensils, the bed comfort, and the terrace with its little outdoor sofa were luxurious enough that I could imagine a safari stay in 1820 with the Imperatices Exploratrice or Compagne de Lamarck. I can’t answer the mandatory question because I liked everything; you have to love the tropical feel in the hot season and be okay with shared toilets like a traditional camp, but all the amenities are there.
