The island setting gives breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the surrounding area, and walking the perimeter trail lets you see a full 360‑degree panorama; a steep climb leads to a shrine at the island’s peak. The hotel itself is beautifully designed with open, inviting public spaces and spacious guest rooms, even the basic ones feel large with comfortable furnishings and luxurious bathrooms—my best accommodation during a multi‑week Japan trip. The breakfast buffet was excellent, featuring fresh, locally sourced items served on a peaceful terrace overlooking the bay. Staff were extremely accommodating; despite speaking only basic Japanese, I met several staff members who spoke good English and I could use translation apps for the rest. They happily arranged boat travel back to the mainland to fit my party’s schedule, kept us informed about expected inclement weather, and even sent a staff member to shore to call the boat when we were ready to return. A bonus: as a hotel guest, admission to Awashima Marine Park was free; it’s a small but enjoyable spot with tropical fish aquariums, marine mammals, a building with colorful frog terrariums, and more. The only regret was not purchasing the on‑site dinner after enjoying the included breakfast; I would have liked to try the hotel’s restaurant instead of leaving the island for dinner.

We spent 7 weeks traveling around Japan, and staying at Awashima Hotel was a truly special experience. Because the hotel isn’t on heavily trafficked tourist routes, it was especially quiet on weekdays, giving us great value for money. The suites are very large and well equipped. The hotel isn’t in brand‑new condition and the finish shows a bit of wear, but it still feels like a 5‑star experience: everything is spacious, and the view from the rooms, restaurants, and salon is fantastic. The onsen is a dream—having visited many onsens, this one feels like an “Infinity pool” with a view of Fuji! The two dinners (French and Japanese) were also very good. Spending 2–3 days on the island is perfect: you can walk around, climb the island’s mountain, and in summer even swim (even though that’s not really planned in Japan). It’s a little crazy, but we remember it positively and are glad we spent time on the beautiful Izu peninsula.

The view was spectacular, the room spacious and the atmosphere calm, which I really liked. The walkway down to the pier looked shabby, and the entrance could use more plants and flowers for decoration.

The staff are very friendly and make you feel comfortable, like in few hotels in Japan. The only bad thing is the Wi‑Fi connection.
