I almost missed my check‑in because the hotel didn’t let me in after 22:30. I called the night before to say I’d arrive around 1 am and they said it was fine, just ring when I got there. I showed up at 1:45 am, rang six times in the next hour, and no one answered. There was no other way in and nothing posted about late arrivals. I ended up sleeping in the lobby of a public building because nothing in Tamworth was open after 2:30 am. I emailed them a week ago with a complaint and still haven’t heard back. Don’t rely on their customer service.
“Disappointing. The photos are selective!”
The location was great, just a short walk to the castle, river, park, and shops, and the beds were comfy. The staff were helpful and friendly, and dinner on the first night was good. But the place was in bad shape: scaffolding and litter outside made it look grubby, the triple room on the 2nd floor had damp, smells, cracks, peeling paper, dirty corridors, and loose wiring near the front entrance. The room itself was basic but fairly clean, though the tiny cupboard had rubbish on the floor, an ironing board, a blanket over the rail, and a door that wouldn’t close. The updated bathroom’s shower leaked all night, and a sodden towel was meant to catch the drips but covered the drain. A double point was hidden behind a pillow. The window faced the messy side of the building and a rusting fire escape, which my grandson found scary and eerie. The old lady who ran the place must have been amazing before, but it needs a complete overhaul. I looked for other accommodation because of the Bloodstock Festival, but nothing was available.

We didn’t get a confirmation from the hotel, so we had to call to check that we were booked in, and then call again on the day of arrival to confirm the time. Even though we didn’t ask for a quiet room, the staff knew we had to be up before 4 am the next morning for a holiday, so they booked us into a better room. The pubs were right outside the windows, which were only single‑glazed, and people were singing, shouting, and screaming until 1 am.

We got there at about 7:30 am and had to wait an hour before we could check in—thanks to the bar guy next door who tried to find someone for us and even called the owner, but no answer. To top it off, a ghost hunt was going on right outside, which freaked me out.
