“READ BEFORE BOOKING”
I was promised a private bathroom, but it was shared with roughly 40 others, filthy, turned off every ten seconds, and cold. The front door didn’t lock, so nothing could be left inside. When I called the manager about the missing lock and private bathroom, she insisted we were in the goldfinch room, even though our booking clearly listed lapwing. I double‑checked the booking, and it definitely said lapwing. No one was actually in lapwing when we arrived because the lock was missing, so we could walk straight in. I called the manager because otherwise the lapwing group that arrived the next day would have walked in on us. The accommodation was a mess: stains on the walls, hair on pillows and sheets, and the shower had a brown substance that looked like mud. The rest of the site was occupied by one group of about 40 people who stayed up late playing loud music, singing, smoking, drinking, and had kids shining torches through our windows, making it impossible to sleep. The manager’s response on the phone was, “well what did you expect?” I expected a private bathroom as advertised, a lock on the front door (a standard feature that should be mentioned if missing), and not to share the site with such a large group. It felt like we were intruding on their weekend away and made us very uncomfortable. The kitchen was also misleading: it only had a kettle, toaster, and sink, no stove or fridge to keep food.
