“Beautiful traditional Japanese onsen”
The building was beautiful, the location was great and the onsen was a treat. It was a bit of a trek to get there, but the staff arranged shuttles when we asked.

Located in Minami Uonuma, Osawayama Onsen Osawakan offers family rooms with air-conditioning, private bathrooms, and mountain or river views. Each room features a tea and coffee maker, refrigerator, and free toiletries. The ryokan boasts a hot spring bath, open-air bath, and hot tub, along with a garden, lounge, and public bath. Nearby skiing at Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort and Joetsu Kokusai Ski Resort.

The ryokan was gorgeous, spotless, well maintained and stylish. We were welcomed with green tea and mochi. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The Japanese room was beautiful and spacious. The rotenburo/outdoor onsen could be booked privately, offering a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. In the morning the rotenburo was split into separate areas for women and men. The keiseki dinner was delicious and the breakfast was also excellent and plentiful.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this was the highlight of our ski trip. Everything was superb—from the service and the tasteful interior to the amenities and especially the onsen. I can’t recommend it enough and would love to return. The price was a bit high, especially since it doesn’t include halfboard.

The hospitality was exceptional, the food was excellent, and the environment itself was wonderful.
