Casa Eufemia Hostel type

I enjoyed my stay at Casa Eufemia so much that I kept extending it because it felt like a home away from home. This was mainly thanks to the warmth and hospitality of the manager, Diana, and also because of the fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, lovely outdoor spaces (2 terraces), fabulous views of Mexico City from the terraces, and the travelers I met. I also liked getting to know Cleo, the dog. The only downside is that one has to climb 5 flights of stairs (no elevator – clearly specified), so come prepared with a backpack rather than a large, heavy suitcase! The great terrace views though make the climb worth it.

The location is great, the place is squeaky clean, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I had a major issue with the wording “private kitchen” in the listing description. It was so misleading that I thought I would have a kitchen in my room, but it was just a “shared” kitchen, just like the “shared” bathrooms. Please just say that! To be fair, the kitchen was very clean and equipped with some new appliances, despite everything else in the place being from like 40 years ago. All the mattresses in our room should have been replaced a long time ago: each had bulging springs that are right under the torso when you lie down, regardless of the orientation! Inside the room there was nothing for you to put stuff other than the metal lockers. It would be a nice touch to install a wall hanger. Finally, four keys/doors are required to get both IN and OUT of the place. A huge evacuation hazard!

The administration is very nice and the view had beautiful vistas. Nothing else, everything is excellent; the bathroom could be improved a little more.

I found the place quiet, but the many stairs and the price made it feel like a different type of house.
