“Unhygienic and smells - I did not end up staying here”
I couldn’t stay at the place at all. I’d booked three nights but had to leave before I even settled in because I got sick. The ad said there were cats, but I didn’t expect the property to be in such a bad state with a strong, pungent odor. The shared areas looked unclean, the carpet was stained everywhere, and overall the house felt unhygienic and a health risk for paying guests. The smell of cats and urine seeped into my booked bedroom even with an air freshener and an open window. The house was cluttered, showing signs of aging and poor upkeep, and barely cleaned. I had to find another spot on the day I arrived because I couldn’t stay more than 20 minutes. The host refunded me in full.
Breakfast was great: cereals, plenty of fruit, orange juice, coffee, tea, and pastries (which I didn’t try). Helen is extremely friendly, interesting, laid‑back, and clearly enjoys hosting. I’m fine with cats, so having four of them around was fine. The book collection is fantastic—if you want a week just reading by the fire, it’s ideal.
“It was ok for a one night stop over.”
It was in a great spot, just a 5‑minute walk from town. The host was pleasant and very welcoming. The room and bathroom were fairly clean, but the rest of the property lacked cleanliness. The host wasn’t around in the morning when we left.
“Perfect Kendal night”
The nights were perfect; Helen was a lovely host and very interesting. A little cat visitor made it even cuter—thanks!
“A room on a budget in a nice location with parking were the perks. Lovely building but needs a thorough clean inside.”
The location was good; I could leave my car and walk into town in 10 minutes, and the views were lovely. The downside: no internet during my stay, and the place was very dirty inside—especially the carpet, which had large dark stains and a bit of a smell.
