The Lansdowne Strand, a Grade II listed 18th-century building, sits on the A4, preserving the original Brewery House and offering a glimpse into the past. This historic hotel features individually designed en-suite bedrooms, a lounge area with a bar and fireplace, a restaurant, and two function rooms, including a Tap Room with an open fireplace, perfect for a warm and cozy atmosphere.

There was little to like about this place. The room had no hang‑up space, windows couldn’t be opened because the building is protected, and the bed wasn’t changed after the previous guest. Mold was on the walls, and the building was full of steps, stairs, and broken cobbles in the courtyard—mobility‑friendly? Not at all. Many guests brought dogs, some aggressive and fighting, frightening others. At 11 pm the bar closed without any accommodation for guests; an ignorant barman would swipe a full glass away. By 11:15 pm the hotel was dark and no staff were around. The bar menu was awful, and the continental breakfast offered dry croissants, only brown bread for toasting, limited yogurts and fruit, tea, coffee, orange juice, and apple juice. When we ordered tea in the afternoon, we were given one white and one brown sugar cube; when we asked for more, the barman looked at us like we had two heads and gave us one more white cube. Everything was skimpy, and it felt like a joke run by kids.

Love the relaxed friendly vibes. Attentive, polite young team of staff. Massive bed. Good bar prices. Bus stop out of front door. Lovely, complimentary breakfast buffet. Lovely courtyard Nice history/pictures. Quiet snug. Didn't like that I was only staying for x1 night. 😅
