“Un logement typique bien situé”

The ryokan offers a truly typical experience with futons, low tables, a private zen space, and a soothing garden. Its spot is great for exploring eastern Kyoto, with transport and restaurants nearby. We could drop our bags early and have them placed in our room for when we returned. The downside is that, as a hotel, it lacks amenities like a washing machine or microwave—though we knew that beforehand. The three futons in the single room feel cramped next to each other.

“Expected a bit better for the price we paid”

The bedroom is spacious with a lovely garden view, clean, and smells nice. The bookable hot tubs were great after a long day or walk. I’m surprised the reviews praised the futon beds as comfortable—mine felt too thin, and I’ve had much cozier ones on our trip. I wouldn’t call this a traditional ryokan; it felt quite commercial. Note that the hotel is a bit of a walk from central Kyoto.

“Kann man machen, muss man aber nicht”

The staff is very helpful and friendly, and the Japanese breakfast is excellent. Unfortunately, our room was a bit dated with some wear, such as a small hole in the floor. I had hoped for more details about the room’s design and furnishings. So I stayed in a traditional accommodation but gained no new knowledge. All in all, it was just another overnight stay in Japan.
