“Faultless from the moment we landed”

We stayed four nights in August and everything surpassed our expectations; the weather was glorious all the time, and the service left the biggest impression – the team made us feel genuinely special without ever being intrusive, attentive but never hovering, a balance that shows proper training and is rarer than you’d think; the food deserves special mention – the evening buffet was outstanding, the produce fresh, and everything prepared with real skill, comparable to very good restaurants back home in Paris, which we didn’t expect to say about a resort buffet; breakfast was equally strong with an amazing view; our villa was exceptional, the private pool opening straight onto the beach is a genuine luxury, and because the resort is new everything is immaculate, with beautiful design and furniture; snorkeling off the beach was a nice surprise, we saw baby reef sharks, sea snakes, and plenty of colourful fish; it isn’t the most spectacular reef in the Maldives, but having it accessible from the shore counts for a lot; the logistics were seamless, we were looked after from the moment we landed in Malé, taken to a lounge where the wait was genuinely pleasant, and the seaplane flight itself was a highlight; we already want to come back.

We spent the Easter holidays at Ananea Resort. The trip started nicely but ended in an absolute disaster, so we would not recommend the resort to anyone. Our beach villa with pool was modern, clean, and spacious, yet the beach condition was disappointing. Besides piles of broken coral, we also found unsightly sandbags on the shore. Trash also lay in the plant beds and was not removed during our entire stay. The service, especially from hotel management, was a catastrophe. Whether at breakfast in the morning or at the bar in the evening, we received the wrong drinks on 10 of 12 days. At first we laughed, but when it kept happening—despite us ordering the same drinks each morning and mixing alcoholic and non‑alcoholic beverages at night (which mattered for our minor daughter)—the fun ended. The staff blamed the mistakes on understaffing and being overwhelmed. The climax came on the last evening when we tried to make the final payment and the hotel staff tried three times to tell us the payment failed. On the third supposed failed attempt, we contacted our bank, which confirmed that the payment had indeed been made three times. Instead of offering us water and looking for a constructive solution, there was a two‑hour back‑and‑forth, and neither the hotel manager nor the finance director could provide a resolution. They said they could not reach their bank on a holiday, but promised to look into it. Without a solution, we went back to our room angry, and the last night was ruined.
