The place was lovely, with a traditional hospitality vibe; everything was compact and elegant. The living room was nice with a patio overlooking a stunning garden. The atmosphere makes you feel like you’re being gently taught to be a bit more Japanese. I really liked everything, stayed a week and booked another. Highly recommend.

Breakfast was tasty, and the location was a short walk from the station, but I kept strolling and ended up at the hotel without realizing it. The lights were a bit dim, and there weren’t many toilets, which bothered me.

The house has a very special atmosphere and we loved all the small details, illustrations and tile-art in the bathrooms. Location is perfect in the heart of Onomichi's shopping street. We weren't able to find any sleep there, which should be the most important thing in any guesthouse. Not just because of the noise on the shopping street (not their fault, the female dorm faces the street). Female dorm also only has a sink while the mixed dorm has its own toilet, so you either have to go there or use another toilet on the other side of the building. The sleep bunks look cool but fail in function: the wooden slats have huge gaps in-between them and the "curtains" are completely useless since they don't shield you from the light that comes in at night. Proper curtains on all sides of the bed could easily fix that. Mattresses are extremely worn out so our backs really hurt in the morning

The place is really lovely, and the common areas and shared bedrooms are beautiful. The staff are nice. The beds are terrible; I can’t understand how it gets such good reviews with such awful beds. You can feel the wood under the futon very easily and it hurts. I guess it’s not such an issue if you’re very light and sleep easily everywhere, but I shared that opinion with another annoyed guest.
