“Gérante irrespectueuse”
The rooms were well laid out and pleasant in Anakao, and we were warmly and kindly welcomed by Hassna and Jessica, whom we thank again. They truly helped make our short three‑day stay very enjoyable. Unfortunately, the end of the visit was marred by an encounter with the manager, Carole. In front of other guests, she spoke to me in a very familiar tone, raising her voice while holding a beer, and showed me a lack of respect. The reason was that we had hardly seen her during our stay because we chose to explore the surroundings: visiting the village, eating at the fisherman's restaurant, and joining a trip with a young Malagasy fisherman trying to survive, rather than staying at the hotel. I remained polite and calm, simply explaining that we were not the type to stay at the hotel all day, even though we found the place truly pleasant. Unfortunately, no communication was possible. She replied, “NO, THAT'S ENOUGH, IT'S GOOD!” and gestured for me to leave. That scene deeply hurt me, to the point of crying, because I found it gratuitous and unjustified. When I returned with my friend to settle the bill, Carole eventually apologized. I acknowledge that gesture, but it does not erase how I was treated in front of other guests. For me, that behavior is simply intolerable. We are two independent travelers in Madagascar for a month. What we love most is discovering local life: visiting villages, chatting with residents, tasting local cuisine, and, if possible, employing locals who are also trying to make a living from their activities. In the end, I would recommend this place mainly to holidaymakers or families who want to mainly enjoy their hotel, rather than independent travelers who like to go out, discover, and fully experience their destination. 😉
