“Overpriced pretend luxury”
The decor was pretty and the beach overall was nice, but without any disclaimer or warning the excavator came out several days during our stay and moved rocks around, digging up dirt and dust 5 feet from the lounges, with no courtesy from the hotel to give a warning; the site didn’t indicate construction interruptions in progress. The property has nice restaurants, but 3 of them are in the 16 and over tower, which is annoying because even 15‑year‑old teens who are well‑behaved and dressed well are not allowed—why? For all‑inclusive it doesn’t make sense to exclude teens from 3 of 5 restaurants. The pool areas are beautiful and the staff at the pool and beach areas are the best, and housekeeping is very good. The room was advertised as having sea views, but we were assigned to the bottom floor with zero sea view, and the room was also in tower 5, which is a 10‑minute trolley ride away from ocean access, so we had no view and no easy beach access. Restaurants upcharge for dishes even with all‑inclusive, and the worst was Karuma, where you pay an upcharge on top of all‑inclusive and still get limited options to order. The pressure to tip extra at all places is very high, and it’s super unpleasant to see everyone showing that the included tip is not adequate for the staff; why say tips are included when everyone expects another 15%? It feels like you’re being sold something all the time. Spaces are empty—terra Luna area, all restaurants, hookah bar, rooftop bars—empty each night for 7 nights, so it’s not clear where the people are but it feels dead and boring at the resort. The spa has ridiculous prices, over $300 US for an 80‑minute massage, and there’s a strong push to buy a timeshare that takes away from vacation and relaxation; it just always feels like you’re there for people to feast money off of you, giving it a bad weird vibe.
