It’s a cute little pub. However, I was woken at 6.15 am by a cleaner vacuuming near my door. The bistro staff were rude; when I asked for a fork they told me to wait.

The staff were lovely and welcoming. The downstairs pub was pleasant and had everything you expect from a local. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The rooms and bathroom facilities were extremely dirty – it looked like they hadn’t been cleaned or maintained for a long time. Hair and what seemed like fecal matter were on the walls, and the hand basins and showers were grimy, so we skipped a shower that night. The bedroom walls, furniture, and skirting boards were also dirty, and there were stale, hard chicken chips on the floor.

The shared bathroom’s condition and aesthetics were displeasing, so I decided not to shower, which was disappointing. A picture of the bathroom should be posted so people know what to expect. I couldn’t find the shared kitchenette mentioned.

I liked how quiet and tidy the place was, but the doors were slammed loudly at night, which was annoying.

The bistro meal was tasty and well presented, and the dining area was pleasantly uncrowded with tables neatly arranged; there were plenty of draft beers on tap, so I’d recommend the spot. In the bedroom, a bedlamp, a single power point, and a functional heater were all that was needed, and the bed itself was made in a way that would satisfy even the most meticulous hospital matron. The room had just been painted and was in good shape, with a lock that worked reliably. The only staff member I encountered was a temporary worker who had not been told when I’d arrive and didn’t know what to do, but she quickly figured it out and told me how to get in and out after hours. She also didn’t know where to leave the key when I checked out, and there was no one there to receive it or a clear place to put it. The bedroom’s fly screen was torn, the men’s bathroom was in a sorry state—both handbasins were peeling and only one had both hot and cold taps working. One of the two large showers had tiles falling off the walls, so it couldn’t be cleaned properly, and the toilet cistern kept leaking into the bowl, which I couldn’t stop, so I chose not to shower.
